For the third time in recent years, the Northern Wasco County Parks and Recreation District has a measure to build a new swimming pool in Thompson Park. The first two attempts involved much grander proposals, but this one is simply to construct a new 50-meter pool to replace the aging Ted Walker Memorial Swimming Pool, along with a permanent bath house and some pool amenities. Mike Weber is part of the group backing the pool campaign, and says the day is coming when the current pool will no longer be usable. The district is seeking a three-point-seven million dollar bond, with an assessment rate of a little over 28 cents per thousand dollars of assessed property value, or $62.16 per year for a $175,000 home. Election day is November 5.
